The Metallic Sunflower Foundation is dedicated to empowering local communities by strengthening small businesses and combating food insecurity. We achieve this by connecting local networks through sustainable agriculture, community beautification, and innovative educational programs.
Our Focus Areas:
- Combating Food Insecurity: We actively work to eliminate food deserts in Houston through our hydroponic farming initiative, ensuring reliable access to fresh, locally-grown produce for communities in need.
- Community Engagement and Growth: Our initiatives nurture resilience and shared success through community-driven projects that foster collaboration and beautification. We aim to establish thriving community hubs that promote health and well-being.
- Educational Partnerships: In collaboration with High Schools and Universities, we integrate agricultural innovation, STEM education, and health improvement programming into our efforts, creating pathways for youth and families to engage in sustainable farming practices
- Partnership with Be Well Acres Home Steering Committee: We collaborate with the Be Well Acres Home Steering Committee to enhance our community garden in Acres Home, focusing on health and wellness through accessible gardening education and resources.
Our Achievements
So far we….
- Acres Home Hydroponic Farm: Our first hydroponic operation at the Acres Home Chamber of Commerce has successfully cultivated over 2,000 plants, with a vision to expand to 6,000 plants through advanced farming techniques.
-Successfully started NFT and Deep Water Culture Systems in residential Homes
- Deep Water Culture Systems Implementation: To increase our yield and provide even more produce, we are integrating new technology into our farming practices.
- Community Nutrition Education: Through programs like the “Farmers Growth Book,” we equip participants with vital agricultural knowledge and healthy cooking practices, driving toward improved community health outcomes.

Local Business Hub: The MSF Collective
The Metallic Sunflower Foundation remains firmly committed to supporting the growth of small businesses through organic development. We established the Collective to create a supportive environment for vendors who often struggle to connect with their communities. With an expanding network of over 50 vendors, the Metallic Sunflower Foundation offers a range of services, including advertising, event planning, website design, assistance with business structure, and a multitude of market opportunities for our Collective members.
